Mathieu Mirano Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

Dragon Woman
Mathieu Mirano Fall/Winter 2012

The mood Mathieu Mirano wanted you to feel was set the moment you walked into the room. Dramatic music poured in through the speakers, drumming up the bold nature of the collection. There were Chinese dragon head figures hanging from the ceiling, giving an instant hint to the designer’s inspiration, even before looking at the clothes.

There was a mixture of soft and hard, sometimes blurring the lines between the two in a single piece. Panne velvet, satin, organza, jersey, and chiffon dresses contrasted the toughness of the structured wool, leather, and python. The colors themselves were very daring, and clearly drawn from his mythical Chinese influence-- with a mixture of burgundy, deep teal blue, black, silver, gold, and brown.

Long-sleeved, bolero jackets were seen over wool dresses and added the element of clean structure.

While beautiful, draped gowns gave a softer feel, still managing to incorporate touch of boldness in their designs.

Mirano also played around with a sunburst motif, integrating the design in several pieces, using leather and sequins.

While the pieces all seemed cohesive with one another, I thought the collection also had a lot of variety. There was a great amount of everything you could imagine wearing and even pieces you wish you had a gala to wear them to. The ferocious, Chinese woman warrior managed to come to life in a very fashion-forward manner. I am very impressed how nicely the collection flowed, especially from such a young designer. He’s definitely one new designer to keep an eye on.

Erin by Erin Fetherston-- Fall/Winter RTW 2012

I was able to attend the Erin by Erin Fetherston Fall/Winter 2012 presentation at Milk Studios, as part of New York Fashion Week.

Check out my review:

Erin by Erin Fetherston—Fall/Winter 2012

The sweet, feminine pieces we’ve come to know and love were on display at the designer’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection presentation, for her line Erin by Erin Fetherston. The models were sitting pretty on gold stumps in flowing chiffon dresses, while the designer herself mingled amongst the crowd of people in the room.

The collection encompassed a mixture of color, print, and metallic shine in pieces that came across as extremely wearable.

It was like walking through an ethereal, picture-book forest, with all of the colorful floral prints and softly draped blouses and gowns.

As beautiful as the pieces in the collection were, it was sometimes hard to remember that this was for the fall/winter. The 36 piece collection felt like it was lacking in the jacket/coat selection and a handful of the dresses gave off a more spring-time vibe, rather than something you’d expect to see for the fall.

There were still many pieces that felt perfect for winter, though. This black marabou feather and gold tinsel shrug was quite dazzling. It also had a long sleeved counterpart that I could imagine an Olsen twin donning in the future.

I really appreciated her use of jade green—which will probably be a popular color this fall. One of my favorite looks of the night, which utilized that shade of green, came in the form of this draped and shirred, chiffon gown. It sums up beautifully what her collection was all about—an easy elegance.

Overall, the line stayed true to Erin’s sweet and feminine aesthetic and showed pieces that will have many women feeling very pretty.
